One question I am always asked is: "Do bad credit credit cards really exist?" The answer is, yes, but "bad credit credit cards" is not the technical term applied to such credit cards. However, as most people refer to such credit cards as "bad credit credit cards," we will, for the purpose of this article, continue using the same name.

A "bad credit" label does not mean you won't get credit cards for the rest of your lives. It just means you may have to pay higher interest rates/fees -- and face increased scrutiny -- to issuers offering bad credit credit cards. Also, the credit limit offered by bad credit credit cards is generally much lower.

If your credit is really bad, though, it may be a good idea to start paying off as much of your balance as possible before you apply for a bad credit credit card. Improving your credit should be your primary goal.

I often notice individuals with bad credit applying for multiple credit cards, hoping that at least one of them will click. Caveat: having too many credit card applications in a short period of time may adversely affect your credit.

Research available options. Certain credit card providers specialize in issuing bad credit credit cards. Try to find these companies. Smaller credit card providers may also be willing to issue bad credit cards. Such providers include department stores, gas companies, etc. You must also check if the new credit card issuer reports to the major credit bureaus. If you plan on being responsible with your new credit card, this may help you re-establish credit.

Other available options include signing for a secured credit card or requesting a friend or relative to co-sign for you. Secured credit card issuers would generally ask you to deposit some money and the amount you shell out would directly correlate to your credit line.
